Top places to visit in La Maddalena Archipelago

La Maddalena Archipelago is a group of seven islands in the North East of Sardinia, Italy. Famous for their stunning beaches, the islands are also full of history: because of their location they have been crucial for military bases and naval strategy. Here are Yacht + Yoga’s favourite spots in the archipelago to make your trip unforgettable.

La Maddalena

The largest of all the 6 islands, La Maddalena is the capital of the archipelago and most importantly offers visitors the possibility to get lost in a maze of small alleyways, picturesque markets and restaurants serving fresh seafood and traditional delicious Sardinian dishes. There’s also a naval museum and several Garibaldi-inspired monuments.

Gelatissimo La Maddalena
Nothing better than a gelato on a hot summer day!! If you like ice cream this gelato parlour will change your life forever: it has a wide variety of flavours a few of them unusual but tasty. The staff is very friendly and some of them speak English and Spanish so don’t worry if you can’t speak Italian.

Aside from gelatos and pretty squares, La Maddalena really stuns you with the beauty of its beaches: Spalmatore Beach is the most famous one among locals and tourists alike because of its crystal clear water and beautiful pink stones. There is also a small bar where you can get good cocktails and fresh food. Tip! Bring your umbrella if you want some shadow.

II Memoriale di Garibaldi, The "Hero of Two Worlds". Garibaldi was an Italian general who commanded the Risorgimento, the movement which unified Italy in 1860s . He retired in 1854 and stayed in Caprera until his death in 1882 . Open for tourists and offering guided tours, his home in Caprera is like a time machine taking us back to this Italian hero's last days, when Garibaldi asked for his bed to be moved to where he could gaze at the emerald and sapphire sea.

Spiaggia di Cala Coticcio. Really, there are no words to describe how beautiful this place is.. we will let this picture speak for this fantastic piece of earth.

The South-Western side of the island has numerous coves and its coastline makes the landing easy for sailors that come to visit it. (and yogis who come to practice as sunset ;)

Museo Geo Mineralogico-Naturalistico at Stagnali. The museum has an exhibition of different types of minerals and sand samples most of them from the archipelago's beaches. There are more museums and military barracks

Spiaggia Testa di Polpo (Octopus Head Beach) and Spiaggia dell’Alberello (Little Tree Beach) are other beautiful beaches located in the small Island of Giardinelli.

La Maddalena archipelago is a real paradise: untouched beaches, good food, great wind and turquoise sea. Join us on a Yacht + Yoga trip and explore it with us.
