You've booked your place on a Yacht + Yoga trip this summer and now.. You might start wondering: "What do you actually pack for a yoga sailing retreat?"
We made a list of recommended must have items to bring to this unique experience.
1) Sun cream
There is nothing more important than taking care of yourself, that's why packing good sunscreen is crucial to protect yourself from the sun. There are plenty of options, but we like Jason's Sports Sunscreen: it's non-greasy, oil-free, water- and sweat-resistant and therefore ideal for spending a day in and out of the sea and on a sailing boat. Jason focus on using natural ingredients, and are one of the leading natural product companies, having been established for over 50 years. All of their products are cruelty free so they are yogi-approved!
3) Wind stopper
A sailing jacket is the best option to keep you dry all the time when on board. It will be hot all day, but an evening breeze can catch you off guard, so pack a waterproof jacket that protects you from wind and splashes of water. We recommend this Rab Firewall Jacket: it uses an innovative new venting system, including full-venting YKK® AquaGuard® Escape Artist™ pit zips. And it's turquoise. You'll be matchy-matchy with the sea ;)
4) Deck shoes
Walking around a sailing boat can be quite challenging: it’s slippery! While flip flops are good for the beach, the best option on a boat is to go barefoot or.. use deck shoes. You can easily go from starboard to port without slipping with these stylish ocean blue Ethletic Fairtrade deck shoes. They are vegan and made out of Fairtrade certified organic cotton canvas from India, along with a natural FSC certified and fairly traded rubber sole from Sri Lanka.
5) Yoga Pants
Now onto the second most important part of a Yacht + Yoga holiday: yoga gear! It is very important that you feel comfortable when you practice yoga in order to enjoy every session. For Yacht + Yoga you’ll need pants that are hugging you in the right places but that don't get you too sweaty! Practising on deck and on sand, means you’ll need pants that are versatile.
If you practice yoga quite a lot you probably already have pants you swear by.. if not, here are some that we recommend:
Sweaty Betty is a very well-known brand with shops where you can find different types of pants, capris and shorts with lovely designs and fabrics. We particularly love this palm print shorts and tank top set.
A half British, half Ossie brand, Samanata Yogi is a new brand that we love for their support to local suppliers and generally for their ethos. Their pants are made with recycled and eco-friendly fabrics and the production process is designed to reduce environmental impact. We love their coral planet pants: Inspired by the depth, power and magnificence of the ocean and all of the incredible things it has to offer, the pants display a beautiful, colourful array of coral and sea life. Using muscle control fabric for optimum compression, Samanata Yogi’s pants are designed to keep you cool and dry. They also provide excellent UV protection with UPF50+ , as well as being sunscreen and oil resistant.
For those who prefer a breezier yoga experience, Sankalpa Yoga Wear produces beautiful harem pants. Founded in Colombia by three young entrepreneurs, the company makes their pants with 100% organic cotton. They also support local Colombian suppliers and manufacture their products locally. They are on Instagram and Facebook. They ship worldwide.
